In sport
dancing we exercise a lot of muscles. In the upper part what we exercise is the
back and abdominals; shoulders, arms and forearms are not worked much during
the dance and will not really be put to the test. However, some dances involve
more often the arms like break dance or hip hop. The dance develops mainly the
lower part of the body: going from top to bottom first we exercise the
buttocks, quads, hamstrings and finally the dance develops the calves.
Sport is
the physical activity that people carry out following rules, it is realized in
specific places, an example is: ¨ SPORT DANCE¨. It is based on dancing
different styles, on which people compete in couples or in teams. The dancers
must dance professionally and elegant according to the rhythm of the songs
which are chosen by the judges and the competitors don’t know anything about them.
It takes place in a dance room; it demands a high physical and technical level.
The first competition took place in Sweden in 1975 with 30 participants. In our
days SPORT DANCE is practiced all over the world.

A famous
sport dancer is Walter William Laird a major influence in the development of Latin
American dancing in Britain after the second World War. He was a world
professional latin dancer champion three times. He coached many successful
dancers including Allan Tornsberg, Vibeke Toft, Espen Salberg, Jukka
Haapalainen, Lynn Harman. He said that his first dance was with his sister Joan
in the 1930s. His first professional partner during the war and after was Andé
Lyons, and he asked her if she was keen on dancing. She said that by that time
the Americans were in force in area. Like most of the girls, she knew how to
Jitter Bug and she were having a great time. Also, she said that her answer for
him was that she loved dancing and her was pretty good at it too, Walter
offered her to teach to dance properly as he thought that she had potential, so
that was how her second career was born.
In
conclusion, Dance Sport respects directions, follows established and written
rules, based on different types of dances such as: Samba, Cha-cha, Rumba and
Two-step. In which the competition is in pairs or teams, besides, in the upper
body what we exercise is the back and abdominals; the shoulders, arms and
forearms are not worked much during the dance and will not really be put to the
test, the lower body is used more for dancing.
